DIY fan gates, drawings, diagrams, sketches. How to make swing gates

The face of a suburban or dacha plot is the gate and wicket. Their main function is to let people into private territory, but if the gates and gates are made with high quality hands, then this can tell about the owner himself, about his preferences and tastes, and wealth.

To make them yourself, you first need to decide on the material, since it must be in harmony with the house itself, the buildings located on the territory and the general style of the entire site.

  • corrugated sheets;
  • metal pipes;
  • four loops;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • sand, broken brick, cement;
  • drill;
  • welding machine;
  • shovels;
  • Bulgarian.

We've got everything ready, let's start.

  1. Mark the area and dig 2 holes for future supports. Since gates made by yourself must be strong and durable, the depth of the hole should be at least 80 cm and the width of about 0.5 meters. Insert the pipes into the prepared holes and fill with cement mortar. Leave to harden for a day.
  2. Assemble the frames of future gates from pipes of smaller diameter. Fasten them together using electric welding. To make the structure durable, install triangles 3 mm thick in each corner. Make locks from the remainder of the pipe, inserting metal rods into them later. Weld them at the bottom and top of the gate.
  3. Install 2 hinges on opposite sides of the structures, welding them to the frame and to the supports. Screw the corrugated sheets with self-tapping screws to the structure.

The gate is ready.

We summarize the installation conclusions

Sliding gates are becoming much more popular than swing gates. If the choice is on such a gate, then before you make it yourself, you need to think through everything very carefully. For them, a necessary condition is the presence of space for opening.

You need to be sure that the gates and fences have no horizontal deviations, since even a slight slope will be an obstacle to the normal operation of the structure. To install the gate, you need to pour a foundation (concrete), purchase automation and install cables. The choice of videos must be taken very seriously. The weight of the gate determines its size. Since the gates have an electric drive, it must be of high quality and reliability.

If you are planning to make a gate with your own hands, you will need step-by-step instructions that will help you calculate all the nuances of the work and will facilitate the process of creating them.

Before purchasing the necessary materials, decide on the type of gate that is suitable for a particular case and a convenient method for installing it.

Types of structures

There are many types of gates, which can be made of different materials and equipped with special mechanisms. A wide selection allows you to create homemade gates based on the characteristics of the room or area, your needs and frequency of use.

Before making gates, you should study the main types of designs that are popular.

Sliding

Sliding canvases are divided into several categories. Depending on your preferences, you can choose the option you need. For each type of structure, you will need to clear a free area along the fence so that the sash can open freely.

There are cantilever sliding structures, suspended and sliding. The structure of such canvases involves moving along rails and other metal profiles.

Hanging options are not popular for use on private property, since the entry height is limited by the upper profile to which the canvas is fixed. The valves also move along this profile.

Some country house owners install fan designs, which received this name due to their appearance.

Sliding doors, which move on a rail located along the wall, are also not popular in snowy and northern cities.

In order for the sash of sliding structures to move freely along the rail, it will be necessary to constantly remove ice and other debris, which is not always comfortable in winter.

Cantilever leaves are considered the most optimal design for sliding gates. The canvas is rigidly attached to the beam, which moves along the cantilever assembly and moves the sashes behind it. Despite the fact that the structure of the products is complex, they work great in the winter season, since the sash does not come into contact with the ground.

Tilt&Turn

This design is optimal for garage conditions. They are not suitable for installation in the yard, since the gates limit the entry height. The canvas should function freely by lifting and sliding the sash under the ceiling of the room.

Swing

Such structures with a door are often installed on the fence in the private sector. Swing gates are based on pillars, two of which are located at the width of the door leaf, and the third pillar is located next to the gate, if it is located next to the structure.

Rolled

These designs have recently appeared on the market. Gates are made of steel strips, which are combined into a flexible sheet. When it is necessary to open the gate, they begin to roll up and wrap around the shaft. This solution allows you to drive close to the room.

Folding

Folding gates are known to many as “accordion gates”. The door can be opened upwards and sideways. There are sealing gaskets between the metal mesh. Designs that open upward have become widespread.

Manufacturing Features

Each type of gate has its own design features. Before starting the manufacturing process, you should study the structure diagrams of the canvas and work out an action plan. Swing gates are not an exception to this issue. Even a beginner who has not previously worked with metal products can make a swing gate from corrugated sheets with his own hands.

To make products, you will need skills in working with a drill, welding, screwdriver, construction tape and grinder. The design of the products is created in such a way that the use of free space should be accompanied by maximum functionality. The reliability of the gate is ensured by roller blocks, which are located in the lower part of the profile beam and move due to the opening or closing of the doors.

There are several features of this type of gate that distinguish it from other designs:

  • when assembling the canvas, push-button corner connectors are used, thanks to which it is possible to prevent the sashes from sagging during use;
  • The material fasteners are hidden, thereby preserving the decorative properties of the gate. Also, this solution prevents foreign objects from entering the space between the profile;
  • The doors are fastened using three-section hinges. Details allow you to extend the service life of the structure.

Studying the drawings of a standard sheet made of corrugated sheets, you will notice that a frame made of a square metal profile is used as the basis of the structure. As an alternative, a thick-walled pipe with a diameter of 30 mm is used.

To strengthen the doors, a metal vein is used. It should be positioned horizontally. Such reinforcement allows you to maintain the geometry of the canvas.

You can secure the doors using electric welding or metal screws. Since the corrugated sheet is light, two strong loops with a diameter of 20 mm will be enough for it. Metal pipes with a diameter of 60-100 mm can act as a load-bearing support.

The gate leaves are fastened on the basis of the fence that is present on the site. If you are planning to install a brick fence, consider installing embedded joints between the bricks in advance. Hinged supports will be welded to them.

The optimal width of entrance gates on private property is 3 m. These dimensions are sufficient for a truck or car to enter the yard. The height of the gate should not exceed 2 meters.

L-shaped pins can be used as a locking mechanism. They should be located at the bottom of the sashes. Special clamps are dug into the ground, which are metal tubes whose diameter exceeds the thickness of the locking mechanism.

To ensure that the new gate fits harmoniously into the overall interior of the site, you can use corrugated sheets to finish the frame part. As a rule, the material is attached to the frame of the canvas.

Maintain a distance from the ground, which should be 50-70 mm.

Material selection

The type of material from which the gate will be made is influenced by the dimensions of the structure, its weight and other factors. Typically, the frames for the sashes are made from a profile pipe with a cross-section of 60x40 mm. Choose metal whose thickness is 1.5-2 mm.

The cross-sectional size also depends on the weight of the gate, but experts recommend making a choice based on the following indicators:

  • if the total weight of the gate leaves does not exceed 150 kg, you can use a pipe whose cross-section is 80x80 mm. The metal thickness should be 4 mm;
  • when metal gates weigh from 150-300 kg, it is necessary to use a pipe with a cross-section of 100x100 mm and a thickness of 5 mm;
  • if the weight of the structure exceeds 300 kg, iron pipes with a cross-section of 140x140 mm and a material thickness of 5 mm are suitable for you.

To create racks, you can use brick, wood or concrete. When choosing a material, you should study the properties and its resistance to expected loads.

Hinges can have adjustable or non-adjustable mechanisms. Make sure that the material used is of high quality, as the hinges must support the weight of the fabric.

The lock may have a mechanical structure or operate on the basis of electromechanics. The choice should be made based on your preferences. You will also need paint to paint the racks and metal profile cladding.

The sheathing can be made of any material. Many people make cladding from profiles; some owners of country houses choose combined options made of wood and metal or PVC. Any option you like will be suitable for this purpose.

If you are planning to create an automatic gate, make the frame more durable. Automation can be installed immediately or later.

Dimensions

The best option is to build a gate at the same time as a fence. However, many people are faced with a situation where they need to widen their driveway or replace an old product. In this case, you will need to make an accurate calculation of the future gate.

Taking measurements and calculating the required amount of material, take into account the surface of the driveways. If your area is equipped with an asphalt, concrete or tiled surface, you can leave a clearance of 5 cm. If there is grass on the road, increase the clearance to 10 cm for comfortable opening of the gate.

Do not forget to leave a gap between the sashes so that in the future it will be possible to level out the displacement of the supports.

Tools and accessories

Gates can have a variety of structures. Many people equip their canvases with built-in gates for convenience. Before creating a gate, you will need to carefully consider how the finished canvas will look, draw a diagram or sketch of the structure. This decision will help you decide on the tools and materials that will be required to create the canvas.

The standard list of components for creating gates consists of the following items:

  • sheathing for sashes, support pipes;
  • reinforcement for creating stiffeners;
  • a pipe made of a profile or a square of metal for the frame of the structure;
  • primer, material for painting;
  • bolts, latches or bolt mechanisms;
  • hinges for sashes, guides and closers if necessary.

You will also need the following tools:

  • construction cord made of nylon;
  • welding machine;
  • hammer;
  • screwdriver or drill;
  • electric grinder;
  • special scissors for metal.

When planning a new gate, you will need to pay special attention to the dimensions of the structure and the presence of a gate. Due to the large sashes, the weight of the entire structure increases, so the frame should be made of reinforced material.

How to do it yourself?

Gates are manufactured in stages. The process is divided into two steps:

  • installation of racks for hanging the canvas;
  • creation of swing gates.

You can replace the stages, but the posts for the gate structure must stand for at least seven days, after which you can hang the frame on them. In order not to waste time, you can start welding.

Installation of supports

Supports can be made from:

  • profile pipe;
  • concrete pillars. You can buy a finished product or fill it yourself;
  • brick or natural stone.
  • wooden beam.

Installation of supports can be carried out using the following methods:

  • driving. The driving depth should be about 1.5 meters. This method is considered the fastest and most economical. When choosing this method, you should carefully monitor the level so that the gate does not warp;
  • concreting with reinforcement. You will need to strengthen the pillar with concrete.

Step-by-step instructions for installing supports:

  • if you decide to do concreting, you will need to drill a pit with a minimum depth of 1 meter. Drilling must be done with a drill whose diameter is more than 200 mm.
  • The depth of the pit will depend on the degree of soil freezing in your region. The width of the sides can be determined using the quality of the soil and the size of the support itself.
  • create a concrete cushion 150-200 mm high. It should consist of sand and crushed stone. The cushion is used to prevent deepening of the racks;
  • then you will need to mount the post and level it using a building level. After leveling the support, you can begin pouring;
  • The concreted structure must last for a week. This is the minimum period required for concrete to harden. Do not forget to periodically moisten the concrete with water to prevent cracks from appearing;
  • to increase the reliability of the supports, it will be necessary to make reinforcement and install a pair of reinforcing embeds under the hinges.

Creating sashes

Before you begin construction of the structure, you should decide on the location and appearance of the gate. The place where the products are installed can influence the appearance of all elements.

If you are planning to install a gate in your backyard, at the entrance to a garden area, or to create a fence for a future construction site, you will need to choose simple materials. For the front gate you should choose more expensive and presentable products.

A universal guide for making gates with your own hands:

  • prepare a drawing of the future structure. Using the diagram, you can make an accurate calculation of the required materials;
  • The gate frame must correspond to the finishing dimensions. By observing this condition, you can simplify the entire work process and will not encounter connecting seams on the front part of the canvas;
  • when making calculations, you should use the indicators of the working width of finishing materials;
  • to create components for the frame, you will need to cut the pipe to the required length and sand it;
  • Grinding is required to clean products from rust. If there is oil grease on the metal, it can be removed using solvents.

Welding

When interacting with welding, do not forget about safety precautions. If you do not have enough experience, contact specialists. Using this method, you can improve the quality of work and get an attractive design.

Joints should be made in such a way that water does not flow into the pipe.. If the joints are welded incorrectly, snow or water will get into the pipe, which will begin to increase in volume in warm weather. This will lead to expansion of the walls of the product and deformation of the entire structure.

If you are welding the outer and inner frames, a staggered order will be required. In this way, it is possible to prevent ruptures of welding seams due to thermal expansion.

Stiffening ribs influence resistance to wind loads. If you are sewing a fence using finishing material, weld the pipe in the middle part of the outer seam. In this way you will mark the place where the sheathing material will be attached.

Welding of the loop should be done to the posts and to the frame. If you used bricks to make the pillars, but no reinforcement was removed, you will need to attach a channel to the brick, and then start welding the hinges.

Primer

No matter what material you use to create the frame, it will require priming. The primer extends the life of the paint and makes the application process more comfortable. Welding areas should be primed more thoroughly.

Painting the frame

Before painting, remove all dust from the frame. To paint the part, you can use any type of paint. Most people use a spray gun as it ensures a more even coat application. Using a brush delays the process, but reduces paint consumption.

With this step-by-step guide, you can make your own gate and simplify the process as much as possible.

Beautiful examples and options

A beautifully decorated gate will attract attention to the site and demonstrate the good taste of its owner. Openwork canvases are popular. Decorative doors look expensive and sophisticated. The inner side of the structure can be sheathed with polycarbonate sheets. Externally, such gates look like a real work of art.

The products can be installed in a country house or on a country plot. With patterned elements you can show the individuality of your territory.

Stained glass inserts on the entrance gates give the entire area an impressive and unusual look. The designs demonstrate their brightness and originality, attracting the attention of others. You can choose any design depending on your imagination. The style of the idea must be combined with the rest of the design components.

If you want to give your site a more austere look, pay attention to solid metal gates with forged elements. They will harmoniously combine metal with decorative patterns. The chosen design will show the good taste of its owner and will hide the area from prying eyes.

On the site that borders the plantings, you can install gates made of natural materials. You can use a stone for support. Such canvases look beautiful against the backdrop of nature. Natural components will last a long time if you treat the surface with protective products.

The strength of the gate is guaranteed by stone supports. This design is convenient, since when replacing the main leaf there is no need to dismantle the entire gate.

Compact white gates always attract attention. The white color scheme gives the products lightness and weightlessness. Although the gates have a catchy color, they will blend organically with the overall style of the area.

The design will attract the attention of passers-by, since there is an opinion that only wealthy people can afford such gates.

Sliding products with an original design will look good in the country. They can save space on your site and will delight you with their modern style.

Many people equip gates with wooden gates, which can be used not only as an entrance to the territory, but also for zoning space.

If a theater begins with a coat rack, then a country house begins with a gate and gate. Therefore, it is very important to install not only functional and practical products, but also beautiful ones. But before you go to the store, you need to study this issue thoroughly.

Design Features

After a piece of land has been purchased, the first thing to do is fence it off. Not only future country estates are fenced off, but also summer cottages. For this purpose, either brick, lattice, or corrugated fences are used. This is done in order to prevent the theft of building materials and to separate from neighbors. Depending on the type of fence, a wicket and entrance gate are chosen.

The main difficulties arise when choosing gates, since they are selected based on the type of terrain, the dimensions of the house and the area of the site. The main purpose of the gate, the location of the street, and the width of the roadway are also important.

Remember, if you place the gate in an inconvenient place, you will have to dismantle it later, and this is an extra waste of money, so it is better to prepare a plan in advance.

Entrance gates in most cases consist of a frame leaf, a filler for the leaves, moving fittings and load-bearing posts.

Purpose

For private homes and cottages, gates with gates have a universal purpose. With their help, you can not only organize entry/exit and entry/exit from the territory, but also, in combination with solid fences, “insulate” the area. This is especially important to consider in the winter, when cold northern winds can negatively affect planted trees and shrubs.

If in panel houses the entrance to the house is the door, they protect against unauthorized entry and indicate the material wealth of the owner, then in the private sector this role is assigned directly to the gate.

Some wooden structures, erected 50 and 100 years ago, have survived to this day, but they require good care, otherwise the support or swing system will become unusable. From the point of view of modern fashion, these buildings are outdated, they have been replaced by improved technological products, but it is important that they serve faithfully for several decades.

Remember, by spending once, you can inherit a livable fenced plot of land not only to your children, but also to your grandchildren and even great-grandchildren.

Materials

The design consists of a thoroughly welded frame, which is made of profile or steel pipe. Only stainless material is suitable for the profile, otherwise the product must be periodically painted. Profiled pipes are also used for the construction of gates.

In former times, welded sheets were ordered from Soviet factories; they did not represent a work of art and were used only to fence off a plot of land from the roadway. This was especially true in the 90s of the last century.

But the years passed, times changed, fashion and people’s material well-being changed, rectangular, featureless welded gates were replaced by cast iron ones - this is a whole work of art. They were cast by masters of their craft; the patterns and ornaments of such gates and gates could take any shape. This technology is still in demand, but it is offered for a lot of money.

As an alternative, many owners of country houses order structures made from corrugated sheets. These gates go well with the main fence, If desired, you can install it in such a way that the entrance and entrance will not be noticeable from afar.

But if the perimeter of the house is surrounded by stone structures, then wrought iron or lattice gates are installed for beauty. To create a thermal effect, they are sheathed with polycarbonate sheets and a seal is installed. In this case, polycarbonate can be not only transparent, but also matte. In construction stores you can choose material of any color - from common shades to exotic colors.

Beautiful metal structures are obtained when using a European picket fence. For its production, a special technology is used - first, metal sheets are cut in a special way, and then the resulting trims are fixed symmetrically on the guides.

Kinds

Experts and ordinary people strongly recommend not to give up the gate. By saving a little money on its installation, you can create some inconveniences for yourself, the main of which will be the constant opening and closing of the gate. After all, in order to let someone in or out of the territory, you will need to open the gate. If the fence is equipped with a separate entrance, then such difficulties will not arise.

As a rule, a separate entrance for people is a small single-leaf door opening onto the street. Depending on the preferences of the owners, it can be solid or lattice. For aesthetics, it should be combined with a central entrance for cars. It is equipped with either a bell or a video intercom; for small areas, a hanging knocker - a door knocker - is sufficient.

Gates themselves can be swinging, sliding, folding and lift-and-turn. Sliding, in turn, are divided into suspended and cantilever. Most often, swing gates are installed.

In terms of savings, this is the cheapest option. Moreover, the gate can be mounted directly into the structure. This is done in order not to complicate the installation process. For this design, two supports are sufficient. In the classic version, in which the gate is mounted separately, additional support will be required.

Loops are welded onto the vertical supports; they can be metal or made of polymer. The sashes are hung directly on the hinges. Which direction the gate will open and close is chosen only by the owner of the site.

If the driveway is small, it is more advisable to configure the opening to the inside of the yard; this method of opening will not cause inconvenience to passing cars and passers-by.

Keep in mind that in order to ensure that the sashes do not negatively affect the hinges and frames, it is recommended to use lightweight material when sheathing them. A heavy fence can sag under its own weight, tear out supports, and in some cases even deform the fence.

To lock swinging structures, a powerful bolt is installed; it is this that ensures that the doors do not sag during operation. The spring lock ensures the correct position of the blades in the open state, and in the closed state this role is assigned to the limiter.

Swing structures are installed simply and easily. There are several options, each of which is suitable not only for wealthy people, but also for less wealthy citizens - from forged metal to gates and wickets made of corrugated sheets.

As noted earlier, The main disadvantage of this variety is considered to be the sagging of the valves, which ultimately leads to loosening of the pillars. A high-quality foundation will increase the service life. If you save on this, the repair will cost a pretty penny. Another disadvantage is the periodic clearing of the space - from snow, leaves in order to open or close the entrance.

If free space is limited, single-leaf gates are ordered; they open only on one side, respectively, double-leaf gates swing open both to the left and to the right.

Electric swing gates provide opening and closing thanks to two drives. In most cases, the opening is adjusted inside the area, so it is very important that the space is free at all times, otherwise damage will be caused not only to the metal structure, but also to movable property.

Roadbed should not have drops or rises. Because of them, the lower edge of the sashes may touch the road. When using automation, this will lead to damage to the product.

Sliding gates, which are popularly called sliding or sliding gates, have even greater requirements for surface evenness. They consist of a canvas, parallel guides installed at the bottom and top, as well as a roller base. The roller base is made of metal or caprolon.

The movement of the canvas is carried out along a horizontal line, so differences are unacceptable. To accommodate the roller base, a foundation is built where all the filling is “hidden”. A block is installed for automated operation.

For cladding metal structures, corrugated sheets or sheet metal are purchased; if desired, it is not forbidden to use wood or chain-link mesh. By the way, the chain-link mesh is additionally coated with polymer, which provides protection from precipitation, therefore No periodic painting is required.

The main advantages are compactness. For such structures, free space is not important, the wind does not exert any pressure on such gates, and there is no need to clear the entrance of snow. At the same time, in winter it is necessary to monitor the roller base.

Unfortunately, it will not be possible to plant trees and shrubs along the adjacent fence, since space is needed for the canvas.

As noted earlier, sliding gates can also be suspended or cantilevered. The least common way to install hanging gates is to weld a metal beam on top and hang the panels on it. The main disadvantage is the height limiter - through such an entrance it will not be possible to bring construction materials on a truck. If you increase the height of the supports, this will lead to an increase in cost, and the wind load will also increase.

The cantilever version does not have height restrictions; it does not require installing a roller system into the foundation. The movement is carried out thanks to cantilever blocks, or rather, a beam, which can be installed at the bottom, in the middle or on top of the canvas.

It is important to take into account the size of the frame - it is almost twice as wide as the opening. Experts note the difficulty of installing cantilever gates.

Some people, due to limited space, attach a garage to the entrance, so the entrance gate does not lead to the territory of the site, but directly to the garage. And already in the garage a doorway is installed, which provides entrance to the main house. Therefore, to implement the plan, up and over gates are installed. The sash covers the entire opening, the brush seal protects from wind and precipitation. Directly lifting and closing is carried out using hinge-lever fittings.

Plastic rollers move the canvas along guides, which are installed on the ceiling and on the sides. When the sash is fully open, it is located on the ceiling parallel to the floor. The operation of the hinge-lever mechanism is carried out thanks to the drive.

The sash itself is made of sandwich panels, which are double aluminum or steel sheets. Since this entrance leads to the territory of the house, the canvas is insulated, and polyurethane foam insulation is installed between the sheets. Its thickness should not be less than 40 cm.

For cladding, it is recommended to imitate marble, copper or a bronze base, depending on the color of the house or fence. It is not prohibited to use wood, but remember that it must be protected from precipitation and pests. By the way, profiled sheets are also used for cladding. Steel sheets are pre-coated with powder paint.

When using a lift-and-turn system, there is no dependence on the availability of free space, since the opening is carried out according to the height of the room. The gate is mounted directly into the canvas.

It is impossible not to mention the disadvantages of such gates. First of all, we are talking about weak protection against unauthorized hacking. When using poor insulation, there is a high probability of icing and there is lifting limit – no more than 10-12 times a day. When repairing, the entire sash is replaced, not part of it. Decorating such a design is difficult.

The mechanism of operation of folding gates is to use several parts of a telescopic leaf. These parts close and open sequentially.

It is most advisable to install this expensive option in cases where a small area is used, where it is physically impossible to install other options.

Cheap versions of folding gates resemble an accordion; the aluminum leaves are connected by hinges, and rubber is laid between them, providing protection from the wind. The canvases move along special guides. This type requires less free space to operate, unlike swinging gates.

They can be single-leaf or double-leaf, they are equipped with windows. In addition, gates differ not only in opening patterns, but also in decor and dimensions.

Opening pattern

How the entrance gate opens was discussed earlier; the opening mechanism depends on the type of fittings. Conventional hinges are mounted in swing varieties, a roller base - for sliding and swing-lifting ones.

The choice of scheme will be determined by the free space, the financial situation of the owner and his needs. Keep in mind that if building materials or large household appliances and massive furniture are periodically planned to be delivered to the site, There should be no height restrictions.

Standard sizes

When installing entrance gates and gates, they try to take into account the standard, according to which the height of the support pillars should be 3-3.5 m, the height of the gates themselves should be 1.8-2 m, the entrance width should be 3.6-4 m, and the gates should be 1- 1.2 m.

Such a restriction is not imposed on large structures, but it is important to know that the support pillars and foundation must be strengthened. Otherwise, the frame will sag and the support will be torn out, which can lead not only to damage to the fence, but also cause harm to the health of people passing by.

It is useful to know that if the adjacent road is narrow, then the doors should have different widths. For example, the widest one is used for the entry and exit of personal vehicles, and the additional door opens only for the movement of heavy trucks.

Decor

In ancient merchant houses, not only the architraves and porches were decorated with carved inserts, but they also decorated the entrance gates and gates. Today they are trying to abandon wood; this material breaks easily, is susceptible to rotting and deterioration.

Nowadays, they try to make street entrance structures that will last forever. Paint is used to prevent rust.

Using paint work, you can change the color of gates and gates every year - today they are white, and next year they can be, for example, blue.

Forged gates and wickets are available in open and closed types. When using the first type, the entire view of the yard is in the palm of your hand, and in the closed type, the metal elements are attached to the steel sheet. Using special technology, a blacksmith can create not only a family coat of arms, but also various patterns, monograms, and drawings.

Installation

First of all, as an example, we will consider the installation of swing gates and, in parallel, the installation of a single-leaf gate. Often this option is used to enter the territory.

A reasonable question arises - what tools will be needed? At first, of course, you will need a drill. This could be a country drill, a fishing ice drill, or a motor drill. The last two varieties, as a rule, are not large in size, and work with a motorized drill is faster.

The main feature of the dacha drill is the opportunity to “increase” it. For this, a regular meter pipe with thread is used. In combination with the product itself, you can drill up to 1.5-2 m.

In the first stages, you will also need a laser rangefinder. It is important that it has an error of no more than 1.5 mm. Its replacement can be a tape measure 3-5 m long. With their help, the terrain is marked. The required dimensions of gates and gates have already been indicated earlier, it is important to comply with them.

But remember that if you plan to cover metal supports with bricks for subsequent stone cladding, then the dimensions of the brick must be taken into account.

It is important to prepare a wheelbarrow to remove the vacated land. The first 30-40 cm is, as a rule, a fertile layer; it can be used for its intended purpose– spread out in beds or greenhouses. Further, depending on the area, either clay or rocks will go.

If you moisten the soil a little, then drilling will not be so difficult, but pulling it out will become more difficult. The most difficult situation is with drilling stone; in some cases, a crowbar will be required to crush it.

After the first meter has been passed, you need to extend the drill and continue working. The metal pipe usually has a size of 3-3.5 m. Provided that about 2 m should protrude above the ground surface, the remaining part is immersed in the ground. It is most convenient to measure the height with a rangefinder. There should be three such holes - two for the gate and one for the wicket.

It is necessary to take into account the height of groundwater. If there is clay after the fertile layer, then more crushed stone is added as drainage, and if there is rock, a sand mixture is added. The required amount of cement-sand composition is mixed in a concrete mixer.

Alignment is easiest to do “on line”; for this, a metal line is stretched between the fence supports, and a chain with a load is suspended directly above the hole. The load must be located exactly in the center.

A “cushion” consisting of a layer of crushed stone and a layer of sand is poured into the bottom of the pit and compacted. A profile or metal pipe - with dimensions 100x100 or with a diameter of 80-100 mm, respectively, is immersed in the pit. While one person holds it, the second person pours the resulting consistency inside. If the installation is carried out by one person, then the pipe is driven into the ground using a sledgehammer. To enhance the effect, a reinforcing mesh is used.

Some builders, instead of cement, use the middle fraction of crushed stone, which is laid in layers using scrap, periodically filling with water to ensure the correct placement of the stones. To prevent the pipe from leaking, it is important to support it.

If a profile pipe was used, then its upper part must be closed with a plastic plug, but before that cement is poured inside the profile. The plastic plug provides protection from precipitation; as a result, in the summer the metal will not begin to rust from the inside, and in the winter the water in the pipe will not freeze, which means the profile will not burst.

While the cement-sand mixture hardens, in order not to waste time, a metal profile with dimensions of 40x25 is cut for two doors and for the gate. Keep in mind that for maximum fixation and to add strength to the metal structure, stiffening ribs are installed - for this it is enough to weld a diagonal guide. An angle grinder, popularly called a “grinder”, is used to cut metal profiles, and a special apparatus is used for welding work.

Corners are welded to the metal supports, and hinges are welded to them and to the frame. Do not forget to take into account the minimum distance from the ground - the frame should not sag or touch the surface. After the concrete mixture has completely dried, all that remains is to hang the canvases. Sheets of corrugated board, a picket fence or other decorative element are mounted directly to the frame. If you plan to decorate metal columns with brickwork, then the hinge elements are mounted directly into the brick.

Installation of corrugated sheets is carried out using a screwdriver, special screws matched to the color of the sheets, and also using a riveter. There are two types of riveter - pistol-shaped and two-handed. The second, by the way, is more convenient to perform this operation. The place for the rivets is pre-drilled; a screwdriver or electric drill is suitable for this. The rivet firmly fixes the corrugated sheet with the metal profile, making it impossible to dismantle the gate or wicket without damaging the product.

The location of the hinges determines where the gate will open - either into the yard or onto the street. Remember that if the roadway is narrow or vehicles periodically park on it, then it is best to open it inward.

A powerful bolt is installed to close the doors; it has a positive effect on the structure, thanks to which the frame will not sag during operation.

The spring clamp and limiter ensure the correct position of the gate in the open and closed state.

A lock is cut into the gate, and a ring for the latch is additionally welded onto the support. All that remains is to equip the gate with a peephole or a video intercom. To strengthen the structure An additional metal beam can be welded on top.

Otherwise, a mobile structure is installed. Since the movement is carried out on rollers, a special rail or metal profile is installed on the surface, and the gate is equipped with a roller base and fixing brackets on top.

Keep in mind that the canvas moving to the side should not have additional obstacles. All buildings, bushes and trees must be removed or dismantled in advance.

To strengthen the structure and to protect it from strong winds, a strip foundation is poured under the wicket and under the gate. To do this, dig a trench using a shovel with a rounded blade along the entire length of the structure and additionally take into account a margin of 30 cm on each side. The width of the trench should not be less than 40 cm; a depth of 150 cm will need to be dug.

Pits are prepared for metal supports. The drilling procedure has already been described earlier, so there is no point in repeating it. A layer of sand is placed at the bottom of the trench, and then it is spilled with water. Pillars are inserted into the prepared holes; to fix them, before concreting, the holes are filled with construction waste - bricks, remnants of tiles or stones.

After which the reinforcement is welded to metal poles for tying them. Experts recommend using three rows of 12 mm reinforcement, each subsequent row is attached above the previous one. The ends of the reinforcement should protrude by 20-22 cm, for this purpose a trench was dug with a reserve. The last row should be located at least 10-13 cm below the ground surface.

The foundation is poured into pre-assembled formwork. In order to save money, you can refuse it. The choice remains only with the owner of the country house. Direct filling can be done with or without interruptions. The first option is used for the durability of the foundation. Before pouring, a channel is installed; it must be located in the same plane as the base. Surface evenness is measured using a building level, Ideally, the foundation should not have any differences.

If time permits, then the gate supports are made of concrete or brick. You should know that concrete hardens within a month. It is important to use steel mortgages when constructing brick or concrete pillars - three elements are enough for one support.

While the foundation is drying, it is necessary to make a metal frame from a profile, onto which the facing material will be attached in the future, and a support frame. Cutting and cleaning of metal profiles is carried out using a grinder.

It is important to follow safety precautions when working with it - use safety glasses, gloves and uniform.

The location of the frame will depend on the use of one sash or two, as well as on further sheathing. If you plan to sheathe only the front part, then the pipes are moved to the edges, and if on both sides, they are located in the middle.

Keep in mind that All metal parts must be degreased. To do this, a solvent is used, followed by a primer. After waiting for it to dry, a rail, previously purchased at the store, is welded at the bottom of the supporting frame.

Experts advise welding the guide rail, as well as the pipes, in a staggered manner. When welding crosswise, there is no support frame, otherwise the consequences can be disastrous. The seams are cleaned with an angle grinder and then re-coated with primer. When the primer has dried, you can paint the product, preferably in two layers. From an aesthetic point of view, the paint should be matched to the color of the main fence.

Paneling is perfect for cladding. Paneled gates are anti-vandal, can be used in all weather conditions, do not require maintenance, and will last for more than 30 years. They are fastened using a riveter or using a welding machine.

The next step is to install the structure. To do this, carriages are placed on the channel; they need to be moved apart as much as possible. In this case, it is important to take into account the size of the roller - the carriage should not be adjacent to the opening, the indentation should be at least 15-17 cm. The procedure is performed on both sides.

Subsequently, the frame is put on the carriages. If its position is level, it is welded to the channel, and it is important to periodically check the levelness using a building level. As a result, the carriage platform is completely welded.

The next step is to weld the top roller. First it is welded to the lower catcher, and later to the upper one. The catchers themselves are attached to metal supports, and if concrete pillars were used, to mortgages.

Mechanisms of this kind can fail in the winter season, unlike cantilever gates. They do not require insulation, since they do not contact the ground guides. They do not require a height limiter, and One support is enough, which significantly saves time during installation.

The entire installation procedure described earlier is also suitable for this type, only the guide beam is attached to the frame itself from below. A roller base is mounted inside this beam. Folding and up-and-over gates are installed very rarely in the private sector due to the high cost and complexity of installation, so it is not advisable to dwell on this in more detail.

But it should be remembered that for a tight fit of the sash it is necessary to use a rubber seal.

Automation

Often, sliding gates are equipped with automation. The automatic opening of swing gates is carried out thanks to two mechanisms - a linear and a lever drive. A linear electric drive somewhat resembles an oblong box. The operation of the mechanism is not difficult, reliability guarantees trouble-free service life.

Inside the box there is a long screw that facilitates the operation of the gearbox. As a result, the canvas either opens or closes. The body itself is made of high-quality metal, which must be painted. The ideal paint option is powder coating. Unfortunately, other varieties quickly become unusable under the influence of precipitation.

The power of the linear drive depends on the dimensions and weight of the gate - the higher it is, the more powerful the electric motor should be.

The motor is mounted on a support. If the pillar is brickwork, then you first need to remove several bricks from it. In order for the box to fit inside the support, experts advise mounting the movable beam approximately in the center of the canvas.

It is very important to keep in mind that all wiring must be connected in advance and “walled up” in plastic tubes. They protect from moisture and insects. Paving slabs can be laid on top of the communications. The ends of the plastic tubes are fixed to the brickwork using special brackets.

The connection must be made according to the instructions. For many models, the connection principle may differ. Under no circumstances should this work be carried out in rain or snow, as this may result in electric shock. It is important to take into account the stop when setting up, if, of course, you plan to install it.

A lever motor gets its name from its two levers. The gearbox is installed directly in the housing. One end of the lever is connected to the motor, and the other to the sash. This mechanism allows you to open the gate into the yard, regardless of the width of the supports.

Drives should be placed higher than the roof of the car if they interfere with passage, otherwise both the car and the product itself can be damaged.

From an aesthetic point of view, the owners of country houses are striving. It is concreted into the ground, only a lever protrudes from the outside.

As for the configuration, the product consists of two electric drives and a control unit. Actuators are mounted left and right, and some manufacturers add a warning light, radio, antenna and photocells. They are designed so that the gate leaves do not accidentally crush pets, children or elderly people who did not have time to enter and exit within the proposed time limit. As for the signal lamp, it warns pedestrians that the gate is about to open.

Keep in mind that before you go to a hardware store, you need to take measurements not only of the canvas, but also of the support, photograph the gate in general and the hinges in particular, as well as the method of their fastening.

Sliding gates are most often equipped with automatic drives that have a gear, which is what drives the mechanism. A gear guide is fixed on the canvas itself, which moves the gate left and right.

The installation of this system is not much different from that described earlier; the drives of the recoil system, which even have a power of 550-600 N/m, are also supplied with photocells, but the speed of movement must be adjusted taking into account force majeure situations. Many products are equipped with a “wicket” function - the door opens a short distance, sufficient for a person to enter and exit.

Electric motors are capable of moving gates weighing up to 2000 kg. Of course, such drives cost much more than those suitable for domestic use. But if the main focus is on security and protection from hacking, then there is no need to save in this matter.

The choice of product will also be influenced by the frequency of opening and closing. The cheapest options from frequent use will be turned off automatically, otherwise the product will simply fail.

Remember that the movement of the sashes is affected by weather conditions. At lower temperatures, especially in winter, friction can increase, so it is very important to make adjustments based on this.

Necessary take care of backup power in advance. Although some models are equipped with rechargeable batteries, power from a generator will not be superfluous. Automatic opening modes were discussed above, but most often in suburban villages semi-automatic modes are implemented - from the remote control.

Remote Control

In this case, opening is realized not by relative proximity to the gate, but by a button. There are two types of remote controls - with a floating and a fixed code. A control panel with a locking code has in its memory a certain combination of frequencies that is responsible for a particular action. Taking into account the modern technological world, this is bad, since today not only houses, but also cars, but even people’s pockets are crammed with electronics. If the combination matches, the doors will automatically open and any stranger will be able to enter the territory of the country house.

A partial way out of the situation would be to reprogram the remote control, but no one can guarantee that the signal will not be picked up, because, for example, a neighbor could tomorrow buy a lamp powered by a remote control and accidentally open the reprogrammed gate. But an accidental discovery is not so bad; it’s much worse when the attackers specifically read the code and, after the owners leave, get inside not only the yard, but also the house.

Rolling code remotes have several hundred thousand and sometimes millions of combinations. They are never repeated. The system is programmed in such a way that when it recognizes a signal, it opens or closes the gate. If the signal does not match the queue, then no action will be taken. The probability of codes matching with alternative remote controls is relatively low.

Receiving equipment sold in stores can work with both remote controls of the first type and the second. It is mounted according to the instructions in relative proximity to the gate leaves. The range allows you to open the gate in advance, which will ensure free entry into the territory.

Before arranging the central entrance and entrance, it is necessary to think in advance about the location of the gate, whether it will be built into the gate or separate. Keep in mind that the built-in options have a threshold that you will need to constantly cross. This may be difficult for small children or older people.

You should not skimp on additional sensors when using an automatic opening system. For example, without the option to detect foreign objects, the mechanism will not stop, which means that there may be damage to the car, the device, and there is a high probability of harm to humans.

It would be useful to have both sound and lighting accompaniment. This is especially important to consider on poorly lit streets. If the swing gates are opened, moving vehicles may enter the structure.

When there is a power outage, the mechanism must be locked and unlocked. Otherwise, you won’t be able to get inside, and if the light was turned off at the moment of opening, then the gate will remain open, which is fraught with unauthorized entry by intruders. In this case, do not forget about the alarm. She will warn about hacking attempts.

Swinging gates open and close faster. The operating speed of retractables is usually 20 percent lower. But sliding doors take up less space; their doors are completely hidden along the fence.

Blind gates and wickets can hide the interior from prying eyes, but their decor will not have a zest, unlike open options - forged or carved. Lattice structures, in turn, are the lightest, which has a beneficial effect on the support pillars. Folding types are more suitable when combining the entrance directly to the garage. Well, which of them to choose is the right of the owner of a private house.

Beautiful examples

This section will present unusual options for gates and wickets. Remember that even cheap structures can be decorated in such a way that all the neighbors will be jealous; all you need to do is use 3D stickers.

To learn how to make a gate with a wicket with your own hands, see the following video.

The main function of the gate is to protect the courtyard of a private house or industrial area from outside attacks. Swing gates are made simple, without frills, or made solid and even majestic, which are the calling card of the owner of the house.

Types of swing gates

In Russia, swing-type entrance gates are made primarily from two materials: wood and metal. To fence a private yard, they install gates with their own hands from blind leaves, and public squares, courtyards of hospitals, sanatoriums, and educational institutions are made with lattice to provide a surrounding view. By design and capacity they are:

  • double-leaf or with one leaf;
  • combined, with a door in one of the leaves.

Double leaf gates are the most common type as they do not require much space to open in front of them, each leaf being half the width of the gate. Same-sex options require significant space in front of the entrance, as they swing open to the entire width of the driveway.

Combined gate options involve saving space in the yard fencing for simultaneous entry through the gate. To do this, create a small door or gate in one of the doors. They often combine gates with a wicket in garages, small cottages, and warehouses. Such options are the most practical in terms of economy, but to create a beautiful, stylish entrance it is better make a gate separate from the gate. Based on their design, gates are divided into types:

  • decorative finishing on one, outer side;
  • The gate leaves are finished on both sides; such options look beautiful from the outside and inside at the same time.

Swing gates are built with your own hands, since they are simple structures; their manufacture does not require the investment of substantial funds. Metal structures are durable and do not require complex maintenance during operation. The strength of gates made of metal and wood, made according to previously drawn up drawings and diagrams, can serve as a reliable guarantee of the protection of property in the yard.

In defense of the gates made by hand according to the drawings, we can say that there are many opportunities for the construction of the structure to create a unique and original design that distinguishes the entrance from other courtyards in the area. Photos of design solutions can be viewed in catalogs. There is no need to carry out complex preparatory work; at the same time as constructing a gate with your own hands according to the diagram, it is possible install automatic control.

The disadvantages of the design of swing gates include the need to provide significant space in front of the entrance for the movement of the leaves when opening. For some open areas, when installing gates, pay attention to seasonal wind loads, since the gates have sufficient windage and must withstand gusts of air pressure without destroying the structure.

You can make your own gates from the following materials:

In order to be effective in the future the installed automation worked, corrugated sheeting or polycarbonate is chosen as the material for the sheets, since their weight most closely matches the weight of the sashes for the opening mechanism.

The wood used for the sashes is strong, durable and most resistant to precipitation. Oak, pine and spruce are good materials. The durability of wood can be increased by using special impregnations for surface treatment.

To create an original and beautiful design, wood and metal in a harmonious combination are optimal. For example, wooden doors look impressive with metal finishing options. The photos show how figures and elements made of wood are used on the metal base of the gate. Metal forged parts in the design of the doors look aristocratic and elegant. You can do them yourself or order ready-made ones from specialized workshops.

Popular and widespread everywhere for making gates with your own hands is profiled sheet, which is cheap and good appearance. The sheets of the material are light in weight; the corrugated sheets have different textures and colors, so you can choose the covering of the sashes to suit every taste.

The profiled sheet has a low price, is practical and durable in use. The material is not susceptible to external atmospheric destroyers due to its special manufacturing technology. The covering sheets have convenient sizes so that cutting is carried out in a minimum quantity, therefore, the work of making gates with your own hands is quick and easy.

Technological features of gate construction

Design drawing

Like any product, at the beginning of production, gates require the drawing up of a drawing or diagram, which will indicate the dimensions of the leaves, posts and the placement of transverse binders on the swing halves.

A typical design is based on a rectangular frame made of a square or round (pipe) profile with a diameter cross section from 25 to 45 mm. The frame of the sash is strengthened across one or two horizontal crossbars from a profile with a diameter of 20 to 40 mm. Their number depends on the height and width of the sash. Large sashes are characterized by the arrangement of diagonals connecting two opposite corners. This design of the gate half will help it maintain rigidity, geometric dimensions and be durable.

Common decision

Gate leaves are hung on poles using hinges; the supports are made of metal pipes with a diameter of up to 100 mm. Sometimes a channel or I-beam is used for racks, which also work well as part of the gate structure. To hang the shelf on the pipe, loops are welded. Two hinges are enough for each sash.

Concrete supports or made of brickwork are used as support pillars. The gate posts are attached to them with your own hands, which in this case are hinged. To fasten them in brickwork, they provide embedded parts made of thick metal, embedded in the brick with pins and mortar.

They make gates for the entry of all types of transport with a width of 3 m with their own hands; if it is not possible to make such a width, then it is allowed to reduce it by no more than 20 cm, otherwise problems will arise. The height of the gate can be different and depend on the design solution in each individual case, but gates with a height of 2 m are considered standard.

To secure gate leaves usually make a locking mechanism on one of the halves in the form of a pin with the letter G, which is a stopper for opening. To enter the pin into the ground, a hollow pipe is dug into the ground, which is 10 mm larger than the diameter of the pin reinforcement. The stopper material can be reinforcement or thin pipe. The casing pipe is dug to a depth of about 50 cm, the stopper must extend into it in the closed state for at least 5–10 cm. In addition to the lower stopper, a horizontal lock is provided, attached to the cross member.

The sheathing of the shutters is most often carried out with corrugated sheets, which organically fits into the overall picture of the fence made of the same material. The material on the gate is fixed so that it is at a level of 6–8 cm from the base of the ground.

Installation of automated control

Conventional swing gates can be connected to centralized control and you can do it yourself. On websites selling gate automation you can watch a video: how to use the device, and the technology for its installation. For consumer convenience, linear electric drives have been developed.

The control system consists of two drives, a control unit, a signal lamp, an electromagnetic lock and an antenna for reception. Automatic control devices operate from a 220 V network. System elements are designed in appearance to suit various design styles.

If you plan to install automation, then strong concrete, wooden or brick pillars should be made without fail. Automatic control can be used to open the gate outward, inward, and in the middle with modification of the pillars.

The control unit can be located in accordance with the right and left controls; the main thing is the correct selection of the wire cross-section depending on the power of the device. For easy DIY installation a diagram is included with the block, which suggests the approximate location of the elements and indicates the cross-section of the wire.

To locate the automatic gate drive, you need to provide space near the pole. If the design did not include such a device in advance, then you need to carefully hollow out a place in the brickwork for installing the drive.

In accordance with calculations and drawings, the sash elements are laid out and cooked on a flat, prepared surface. All dimensions must clearly correspond to the designations accepted in the drawings. Blanks are cut with an overlap grinder to a size of 1 mm at an angle of 45º. First, the outline of the sash is welded, then the diagonals and cross members are welded.

All prepared frame elements must be cleaned of rust and degreased. The doors are usually rectangular in shape, but can be arched or oval. Before welding, all components are laid out in size on a horizontal plane and the geometric dimensions are checked with a tape measure.

To ensure that the geometric dimensions are correctly observed during operation, overhead parts in the form of a triangle made of sheet steel about 3 mm thick are welded at the corners. To protect the castle from rain, a protective box is made. All welding points are ground with a grinder with a special attachment and coated with paint.

The hinges are marked and welded to the frame, not less than 40 cm from the top and bottom edges. After this, the reverse side of the loop is grabbed to a hanging post, which is brought to the frame. After checking all the calculated dimensions, you can finally weld the second half of the loop.

You can do without welding, but then you will have to fasten it with self-tapping screws, for which you must first drill mounting holes in the thick metal of the rack. The corrugated sheet is attached to the frame with press washers or steel rivets. You can use decorative rivets, but if you need to carry out dismantling work, this will be problematic. Fasten hardware only in places where the wave deepens.

Installation of swing gates begins with the installation of posts, for example, made of metal pipes. The racks can be made of wooden beams, brick or concrete. A metal pipe or channel must be placed in the middle of the brickwork, facing outwards remove embedded parts from a corner or fittings for racks with hinges.

Making gates with your own hands can be called a creative process. There are an infinite number of finishing options embodied by the owner for each individual case, where you can implement your own designs or take as a basis ready-made ones, which can be viewed in photos and videos on the Internet.

Metal pillars are buried 1 m deep; if the supports are made of brick, then a reinforced columnar foundation is made under them. Before installation, pipes are cleaned of rust and treated with solvent or gasoline to degrease, then primed and painted in one go.

The width of the product is determined on the ground and two holes at least a meter deep are dug along the edges; a sand bedding and a crushed stone cushion are made at the bottom for thickness up to 30 cm. The support pillars are placed in the pit and secured in the desired design position using reinforcement. Align the pipe using a level and plumb line. If you have a level, then it is more convenient to use this device.

The space around the pillars is concreted with a solution and left to gain strength for a week for lightweight gate materials. If the sashes are made of thick metal or using forged elements, then it is advisable to wait two weeks from concreting before hanging the sashes.

Making a gate for your home yourself is very attractive from the point of view of saving money on paying specialists; in addition, you can bring your personal design to life and make a stylish entrance to the yard.

Any person wants to protect his life from prying eyes. This can usually be done by erecting a fence around the perimeter of your property. However, not every owner has the opportunity and financial means to hire a team of professionals specializing in the construction of fences. Therefore, the idea of installing iron gates with your own hands is becoming more and more common.

Types of gates

When talking about iron gates, we most often mean two steel sheets, around the perimeter of which a metal profile is mounted, attached with hinges to supporting posts. Metal profiles are the simplest, and at the same time extremely durable building material. Gates of any complexity and design can be made from iron, depending on the experience of the person involved in the construction. So, iron gates are divided into:

  1. Swing gates.
  2. Sliding gates.
  3. Sectional doors.
  4. Forged gates.
  5. Sliding gates.

As a rule, owners of suburban areas rarely have at least some construction experience, so the optimal solution would be to install swing gates made of steel sheets with a thickness of at least 3 mm. They have undeniable advantages when working independently:

  • Creating an iron gate does not require much time or effort.
  • The building material required for the work is available and attractively priced.
  • Swing gates, despite their simplicity, are one of the durable options compared to sectional, sliding or sliding gates.
  • Such gates can be made even by a person who has never done such work before.

Swing gates

Swing gates are a structure with two iron leaves, which are hung on hinges and secured with a lock.

The door leaf can be either solid (profiled sheet, flat sheet of iron) or decorative (forged gates of any complexity). Having chosen the appropriate option, you can proceed to the stage of preparing the independent installation of iron gates.

At the design stage, it is important to determine the exact location of the gate, the option of opening it outward or inward, as well as its length and width. The more carefully the measurements are taken, the easier it will be to erect the gate.

To get started you will need:

  • Tape measure, rope, shovel, hand or electric drill, grinder, drill, screwdriver, building level.
  • Garage hinges – 4 (6) pieces with a diameter of no more than 100-120 cm, reinforcing plates, “ears” for the lock, self-tapping screws, welding machine.

  • Metal profiles 6x4 and 2x2.

Installation steps

Based on calculations, building materials are purchased. A 6x4 metal profile, which will act as load-bearing posts, can be purchased in 1 piece, which will then be cut into 2 identical sections. If you plan to install solid iron gates, you need to purchase two steel sheets of the required size.

It is advisable to hang such gate leaves with at least 3 hinges each.

The length of each supporting post must consist of the height of the steel sheets - the gate leaves, the gap between the leaf and the ground, as well as the depth of the hole in the ground. For greater stability, the metal profile is installed in holes prepared in advance in the right places, the depth of which exceeds the freezing level. A sand and gravel cushion is placed at the bottom of the prepared hole, a stand is placed and it is securely fixed with concrete mortar.

After pouring the concrete solution, give the posts a few days so as not to disturb the concrete base of the gate.

Garage hinges are welded in suitable places. Reinforcing plates are attached to them by welding.

Metal profiles are welded around the perimeter onto steel sheets—the future doors. They will give the gate rigidity. On the inside, “ears” are attached through which the padlock shackle will pass.

The gate leaves are welded to the garage hinges with reinforcing plates at a pre-marked location.

To give strength to the gate, one 6x4 cm metal profile is added to the top and bottom of the structure, the length of which is equal to the distance from one supporting post to the other. One profile needs to be welded to the upper ends of the supporting posts, the other to the lower ends.

The gate leaves must fit entirely onto the lower profile. This will ensure a longer service life of the iron gates being erected and will eliminate premature sagging.

In some cases, special stops are made into the ground on the lower inner edges of the doors, which prevent the inevitable sagging of the gate. However, this measure is not a good solution. Experts recommend using a concrete column sunk into the ground at the junction of the shutters as a measure to prevent sagging of iron gates. Its height should be equal to the distance from the ground to the bottom of the doors.
